Tigers Make First Spring Cuts

The Tigers removed 18 players from their spring camp this morning in the biggest one day roster pruning I can ever remember.  Because they've had a lot of split squad games this spring, they have needed a lot of extra players for longer than usual.  However, they felt it was time to limit themselves to mostly serious competitors for the opening day roster. The list of reassigned players includes:

Pitchers

Chris Oxspring
John Bale
Jacob Turner
Duane Below
Andrew Oliver
Lester Oliveros
Jose Ortega

Catchers

Rob Brantly
Bryan Holaday
Patrick Leyland
John Murrian
Omir Santos

Infielders

Ryan Strieby
Brandon Douglas
Audy Ciriaco
Cale Iorg

Outfielders

Ben Guez
Avisail Garcia

There are no major surprises unless you were thinking someone like Bale had an outside shot at landing in the bullpen. The moves leave the Tigers with 40 players in camp including non-roster invitees.
